Transferring Your Domain Name
Transferring a domain means having the name server entries in the registry database changed to show the Hostroute.com nameservers. Without this, we can not point your domain name to your web space.
The term "domain transfer" is used by some web hosting companies to mean two different things. Here are the two meanings and our recommendations:
1. Changing Name Servers. This is the easiest way to move your domain over. Contact your domain registrar and ask them to change the name servers for your domain name to those we provided in our welcome email. Most registrars have an online interface for changing name servers (see the list below) so you may be able to do this yourself. Once they have made the change the domain will have moved over within 72 hours.
2. A Change of Registrar. This option takes over a week to complete and is not recommended unless your current registrar refuses to make the name server changes for you. Make us the registrar for your domain name by filling out this form . Then wait 7 days and go here to change the name servers to ours.
How long will it take for my domain to be transferred?
Your web hosting account will be active within 24 hours of ordering (usually less than 8). Your web pages will be visible at the temporary address we provide you with as soon as you uploaded them.
However, the transfer process for the domain name can take a couple of days and then the new information has to propagate round the Internet, which takes a few days again. This is why we say in our welcome email that it will take 72 hours for your domain to be pointing to your web hosting account.
During the change over period your web pages would still be visible from your old web account, provided it is still active.
